Advantages/Disadvantages
4X4 Posi-Lok Advantages: Works like hubs with full control from inside cab without stopping Positive manual control which is not prone to failure Reduces front differential wear and right axle breakage Will not disengage when ignition is turned off or submerged Compatible with manual or electric transfer case "T" handle visible only in locked position Complete installation takes approximately one to two hours with common hand tools Disengage Posi-Lok while in 4WD low range to eliminate steering bind, in effect giving you the benefits of 2WD low range
OEM* Thermal Linear Actuator Disadvantages:
The OEM unit may take from "5 seconds to never" to engage 4 wheel drive The OEM unit is temperature controlled. The colder the temperature, the longer it will take to lock-up. If the unit becomes submerged, it will cool the unit and you may lose your 4 wheel drive OEM is electronically controlled and may disengage when the engine is turned off The OEM unit has demonstrated a high rate of failure, is non-repairable and may cause other electrical problems The OEM unit can cause excessive wear and right axle breakage
OEM* Vacuum Actuator Disadvantages:
The OEM unit may take from "5 seconds to never" to engage 4 wheel drive The OEM unit is vacuum controlled. This vacuum system is prone to failure due to frozen diaphram, loss of vacuum, hard or cracked vacuum hoses, or complete loss of vacuum lines The OEM unit has demonstrated a high rate of failure, is non-repairable and may cause other problems The OEM unit can cause excessive wear and right axle breakage
